Objectives:
At the end of this conference, clinicians and basic scientists will have had the opportunity to interact for the purpose of disseminating the most recent scientific findings on toxin trafficking, mechanism of action, duration of effect, administration and selection of targets, and immunoresistance, which will:
* influence the direction of research
* accelerate scientific and medical advances
* improve patient care in terms of treatment of neurologic and other diseases,
including novel therapeutic applications, and
* aid in the development of antidotes and vaccines.
Target Audience:
Clinicians, Life Science Researchers, Medicinal Chemists, Medical and Graduate Students, Residents and Postdoctoral Fellows who have an interest in synaptic function; in the mechanism by which botulinum and tetanus neurotoxins interfere with this function, and in toxin therapy to treat the synaptic hyperactivity underlying a number of clinical disorders.
Scientific Program:
The Program includes Plenary Lectures, Clinical and Scientific Symposia, Special Interest Workshops, a Translational Medicine Workshop, and Posters. One poster will be selected for a short platform presentation at the end of each Symposium. The Special Interest Workshops, offered to smaller groups, will provide in-depth coverage of selected topics with input from the audience.
Symposium speakers will present and discuss recent advances in clinical and basic science themes including receptors and trafficking; exocytosis and SNARE proteins; the neuromuscular junction; dystonia and other hyperkinetic disorders; spasticity; gastrointestinal, urological, and autonomic disorders; toxin engineering, and immunoresistance.
Workshops will focus on issues in toxin detection and assay, novel applications; therapeutics and prophylaxis; cosmetic use, muscle spasms; headache and other pain, and non-type A toxins.
Abstract Submissions:
Participants are invited to submit abstracts on-line for poster presentations. The deadline for abstract submission is May 6, 2005.
General Information: The Denver Marriott City Center will serve as the headquarters for scientific sessions, posters, and exhibits.
Conference Registration:
Registration by credit card will be available on-line. Fees are $350.00 for regular attendees and $200 for medical and graduate students until May 20th. After that, on-line and on-site fees are $450 (regular) and $250 (student).
CME:
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of The National Institutes of Health/Foundation for Advanced Education in the Sciences (NIH/FAES) and the Neurotoxicity Society. The NIH/FAES is accredited by the ACCME to sponsor CME for physicians.
